Hughes, MC Break Ground on High-Tech Manufacturing Facility at PIC MC Technology Complex

Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç Leaders, Montgomery Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç Government Officials, and Hughes Network Leaders.

Officials from Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç and Hughes held a groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 3 for a new manufacturing facility, which will house production of Hughes satellite broadband and networking equipment.

Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç held a groundbreaking event Oct. 3 for its newest tenant, Hughes Network Systems, at MC¡¯s Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology, located at MC¡¯s Germantown Campus.

Hughes plans to operate a manufacturing facility that will house production of Hughes satellite broadband and networking equipment. The building will be located at 19710 Observation Drive. As part of the arrangement, Hughes and Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç will continue to collaborate on training and educational initiatives.

¡°We look forward to inviting students from PIC MC to learn and grow with us and continuing to engage with the community where so many of our employees live and work,¡± said Jim Muir III, vice president of corporate real estate at Hughes and 1975 graduate of Montgomery College .

In August, MC and its partners signed a ground lease with development partners Minkoff Development and South Duvall. In turn, they executed a full building lease with Hughes Network Systems LLC to construct a 140,000-square-foot build-to-suit project at the PIC MC.

The Pinkney Innovation Complex for Science and Technology at Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç, or PIC MC, is a hub of education, business, and entrepreneurship, where industry partners co-locate and actively interact with faculty and students to achieve both educational and economic success. The Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç Germantown Campus features the Holy Cross Germantown Hospital, an 80,000-square-foot medical office Building, a 145,000-square-foot bioscience educational building, and the Montgomery Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç-owned Germantown Innovation Center, a business incubator with 24 startup life sciences companies.
