Three Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç athletics teams won National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX titles this past weekend. By 6 p.m. Saturday, October 30, volleyball (Division 2), women¡¯s and men¡¯s soccer (both Division 1) were celebrating championships with their eyes on an even bigger prize ¨C Districts.
The men¡¯s soccer team won the semifinal match of the East District championships in New Rochelle, NY by defeating the host, Monroe College, 1-0, in overtime on October 30. As a result, the Raptors will host state-rival Harford CC in the East District championship final match. The game will be played on MC soccer¡¯s new home turf on the Rockville Campus this Saturday, November 6 at 5 p.m. MC is ranked #16 in the latest national poll while Harford checks in at #19.
Later that day, the top-seeded Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç women¡¯s soccer team claimed the 2021 Region XX DI championship by scoring in the fourth minute of overtime, defeating the Harford CC Fighting Owls. As a result, the women¡¯s soccer team will travel to Monroe College to play in the District finals this Friday, November 5, at 1 p.m.
Finally, in the late afternoon last Saturday, the Raptors women¡¯s volleyball team claimed the Region XX DII championship, defeating WVU Potomac State College 3-1 in the semifinal match before upsetting the top-seeded Hagerstown Community College Hawks, 3-1. As a result, the Raptors host the Ë«Ó®ÓéÀÖ³Ç College of Morris this Saturday, November 6, at 1 p.m. in the NJCAA DII Mid-Atlantic District Championship at the Rockville Campus. The volleyball team is coached by 2012 MC alum Tori Kenno.
