Biography

A Professor of English at MC and an Outstanding Faculty Award recipient (2020), Jamie has been closely involved in PPHI initiatives for several years in myriad capacities. She co-coordinates the Digital Storytelling Internship, having contributed to the development of a strong partnership with University of Maryland, Baltimore 双赢娱乐城 to expand the internship after winning - as a co-author - an MC Innovation Grant as well as a Hrabowski Innovation Grant and a Jodi Crandall Fellowship at UMBC. Jamie has continued to design workshops, give presentations, and publish in education and digital storytelling, and in June 2023 she co-chaired the 11th International Digital Storytelling Conference which was co-hosted at MC’s Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. Jamie has also contributed to the Global Humanities Institute, and served on the Global Humanities Institute (GHI) steering board. In addition, after participating in 2015 as a Smithsonian Faculty Fellow, Jamie now combines museum education with digital storytelling in her own classes.

In addition to teaching writing, research, and literature, Jamie has published several articles and has also supervised the Critical Reading, Writing, and Research course. Prior to joining MC, she taught at Trident Technical College, University of Tampa, and St. Petersburg College (Florida). She earned a B.S. in Education at University of Central Florida and an M.A. in literature from College of Charleston. Currently, she is a candidate in the Language, Literacy, and Culture doctoral program at University of Maryland, Baltimore 双赢娱乐城, where her research focuses on collaborative storywork in higher education.

Biography

As the Dean of the English Language for Academic Purposes, Linguistics and Communication Studies Division, Fiona Glade provides oversight to faculty and staff in three academic departments and the Germantown Writing, Reading, and Language Center. A first-generation college student and immigrant to the United States, Dean Glade earned her A.A. in English from Antelope Valley Community College; her B.A. in English from the University of California at Santa Barbara; and her M.A. and her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from Washington State University.

From 2004 to 2009 Professor Glade was faculty at Sacramento State University, where she taught undergraduate composition and writing-in-the-disciplines courses as well as graduate courses in the theory and practice of composition, rhetoric, second language reading and writing, and pedagogy. She also served as coordinator of the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement and as vice chair of the Department of English for four years. Dean Glade moved to Maryland in 2013 to serve at the University of Baltimore as Director of the Writing Program, then from 2016 to 2020 as interim Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and finally as Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Studies.

Based on her own experiences, Dean Glade believes passionately in the capacity of higher education to be transformative, and she is proud to join students, faculty, and staff at MC where her highest priority is to contribute to the college’s commitment to academic excellence and lifelong learning, and to support students’ achievement of the goals they have set for their own education pathways.

Biography

Professor of Art History; Gallery Director, Sarah Silberman Art Gallery, Rockville Campus
Dr. Ken Jassie is a professor of Art History teaching on the Rockville Campus since 1995.  He has participated in the activities of the PPHI beginning in 2000 and became involved with the Portraits of Life: Holocaust Survivors of Montgomery 双赢娱乐城 exhibition in 2005. As the Holocaust Education Coordinator, he conducts outreach with Montgomery 双赢娱乐城 Public Schools as well organizing annual events at the College, such as the Holocaust Commemoration and the Bella Mischkinsky Memorial Lecture.
